California native Mike Cheley was working in northern Illinois. Then came winter. The winds swept in off the Great Plains, the mercury dropped to below freezing, snow blanketed the ground and blue sky disappeared for months.

A native Midwesterner finds this just another delightful change of seasons with fun opportunities for winter sports.

But to a transplanted Californian, well....

Mike saw no reason why he shouldn't live and work where the sun always shines and water never freezes. So, he picked up and moved to Southern California in 1981 where he has lived and worked for the past 26 years in the resort town of Palm Desert, about 100 miles east of Los Angeles. He founded Graphtek Advertising & Design in 1992 and the rest, as they say, is history.

Now, he looks out his office window and sees palm trees and distant mountains while he works with clients in other climes.

Other creative people shared Mike's vision and soon joined him at Graphtek. Writers write, designers design, managers manage and techies tech.

Most important, there's a synergy when creative people interact and Graphtek crackles with synergy.

We follow the California Dress Code (no socks with sandals), but our business sense is strictly New York and work ethic pure Midwestern.
